Oualidia

Well just north of Oualidia really

The town of Oualidia sits at the entrance to a sea inlet that runs north from the town for a distance of over 10km and at the far end of that inlet in beautiful green fields and lush farming land there is a small dirt track that cuts across ancient salt flats and leads you down to a sand track no wider than a van or small track , this hidden little track is the stairway to a little piece of heaven

A few miles past the town of Douar El Habitat heading south on the R301 highway you take a small farm track down a steep hill toward the sea, once you get yourself up onto the cliff top track its just a case of scoping out which of the many amazing park spots has space for more vans or if you want privacy just keep driving down until you find a quiet spot, many of which have your own private little cove

The views across the ocean from these little cliff top perches are absolutely to die for and the sounds of the tremendous waves crashing on the cliffs below are both something to behold .

Waking up to sunrise coming over you to greet the sea you would think that you would be alone but no even here its a hive of activity, looking down you can see dozens of locals out collecting Mussels,Crabs and all sorts os sea snails and limpets, it was a truly magical experience and you even get the chance to buy some of what’s been collected when they come back up the cliff

driving down the highway to reach the these cliffs kids were waving and shouting hello as we passed and during the day as we were parked up inquisitive kids came round to see what we were doing and asked for there pictures to be taken, at first it was slightly unnerving but it soon became apparent that they were just curious of the van and wanted some pictures for the social media.

This park up and many of the park ups and stop overs featured in this blog can be found on the park4night app which is great tool for finding places to stay all over the world

After the quiet and serene beauty of the cliffs to the north of Oualida its worth going down to the town itself even just for the view over the bay and its sandbar in the middle where on certain days you can wade out the the sand bar and have a lunch of fresh fish cooked bbq style by a local chef.

The beach that runs around the central sand bar is beautiful and the local plaza style park has oyster bars and coffee stands lining one side of the square where you can have some exceptional fresh oysters and all kinds of freshly caught fish and shellfish .

The main carpark for campers next to the square is a bit underwhelming as vehicles can be packed together and there’s not view of the beach to distract you from feeling that your just hemmed into a carpark but on the plus side you can get your clothes wash dried folded and returned for 50 dirhams (£3.90) and a wee local guy called Ali will pass by your van and offer homemade Tagines to order and be delivered at dinner time that day by him on his bicycle
